Walking by faith, not by sight....   |   Wednesday, August 11, 2010

Do you understand the absolute frailty of life? Do you understand the fear that so many of these women are feeling? Do you understand the utter frustration of watching your loved one crumble and disintegrate before your very eyes? I felt that yesterday.

Meet twins, Monica and Veronica. Monica's body is being ravaged by cancer. How is it that one aberrant cell can start a process that will ultimately consume this once, active and vital woman? The once Ididarod dogsled musher has been reduced to requiring full time care, a cane and the inability to put two thoughts together. And I could see the absolute panic and distress in her twins eyes as she literally tried to hang onto her sister for dear life to keep her from leaving. What God originally designed as one cell, becoming two grown women, living life all this time and then part of that "cell" leaving the other behind... can you imagine the loss? Literally, part of you dying. I could see the pain on her face. They are reliant on their faith...not what they SEE happening.
She brought one of her many 'sled dogs' with her to be photographed with... as my heart broke, she described trying to find homes for all of them before she's gone. That literally brought me to tears. I was moved beyond words. What a privilege to be part of these women's lives.

Please join with me in spreading the word about this project. I continue to receive notes and the posts on this blog about how these beautiful women are impacting so many others' lives. These women and their stories are reaching people we will never know in ways we'll never understand. I just know that my life changes with each woman I meet and photograph. I understand how fragile life is and will cherish each and every moment I'm given. I will make the most of every opportunity I have to share my photography with others. What will you share with someone you meet today?

I met Monica back in May at the "Look Good Feel Better" Workshop at the Breslin Cancer Center. I was so impressed with her faith and positive attitude and afterwards thought about her almost every day for weeks wondering how she was doing. Monica was so funny while I was modeling wigs for her and she encouraged me to be "bold" and try something different. Monica you will be happy to know that I took your advice and purchased a wig with blond highlights that I wouldn't have normally tried if not for you. I wasn't sure how much I liked it at first but now I really love it.

I am so happy to see that Monica took advantage of the "Be Bold, Feel Beautiful" project because to me she is so brave and so beautiful. I also was photographed for this project and it was such a wonderful experience. You are an amazing woman Terri. Thanks for all you do.

Monica, as a twin myself I know how strong this bond is and how hard it is to watch the other one hurting. My thoughts and prayers continue to be with you and your twin sister through this difficult fight.

Monica is my BFF sadly we lost her on 9/15/10. By the grace of God she went swiftly and peacefully. I will miss her everyday but I know her strong spirit will forever walk with me. She did find loving homes for all of her furkids and that gave her great comfort. I feel blessed to call her my Best Friend Forever. I love you Monica.
